Regency Encourages Locals to Produce Compost Through Waste Sorting

In order to support waste sorting from the source, Thousand Islands Environment (LH) Sub-agency intensifies a movement called 'Kompos Tanam' or planting compost in inhabited islands.

Planting compost means we can use the compost that we produced to plant crops

Through this movement, Thousand Islands LH Sub-agency Head, Djoko Rianto Budi Hartono hopes residents can get used to sort organic and non-organic waste.

According to him, planting compost can be done by collecting organic waste and planting it in a hole thus within a month it can be used as compost. While non-organic waste can be collected and sold at waste bank in each islands.

Waste Sorting Campaign on Panggang Island Intensified

"Planting compost means we can use the compost that we produced to plant crops for decoration and food purposes, seasonal plants, and protective trees," he added, Friday (6/26).

This movement has been started in inhabited islands. His side deployed 24 PJLPs to socialize and assist the local residents in each RWs. First, locals will be asked to create a hole with size 2x1 meter and depth 40-50 centimeters on the empty land for planting compost.

"Sorting waste on the island can reduce cost for operational, transport, fuel, and reduce the waste transported to Bantargebang TPST," he stated.
